Getting Started

Do you have an idea of a book for contemporary Indigenous children and teenagers? Would you like to write or illustrate?

Just start writing or drawing and show us what you can do. No need for any expensive equipment: just take a pencil and paper and start to write a story about some interesting incident, and see where it takes you.

You may be just the writer or just the illustrator, and we can find someone else to work with you to complete the project.

We are interested in helping people to write material which young will want to read. We envisage diverse books that will appeal to children of all ages including fiction or non-fiction. We will encourage different ways to create artwork to effectively illustrate the works.

Start with the strengths - storytelling skills, art skills, an interesting life experience with your cultural style, knowledge or language, with a sense of humour.

These books contain indigenous characters, heroes, villains and distinctive language styles and images. They may contain complex ideas but be easy to read.
In the Publication process communities are consulted giving critical feedback.
