The Black Ink Project
offers publishing as a career path for self-employed artists, writers
and designers. This means a bright future for creative people, working
in a team with good communications and cooperation.Preparation of
books is an opportunity to learn new skills and to develop new ideas,
with help always available from experienced staff.
This work is also suitable for Community Development Employment
project (CDEP) and those people looking for work experience.
Black Ink Press are looking for Indigenous writers and illustrators.
We have skilled writers and artists that are available to mentor
new talent.
To develop your ideas, Black Ink Press will provide on-the-job
training in skills that apply to publishing, but all applicants
need to start with some basic competence in either storytelling,
drawing or writing. It is also useful to have basic journalism skills
such as reporting, interviewing, and photography.
If they create a good product, contributors will get royalties
(a share of the price of every book sold) when the book is finally
published. In the meantime, CDEP may provide a living allowance.
Black Ink Press is looking for skilled people who would like to
work for CDEP and learn as they go:
• Graphic Designers/ Layout Artists who can turn stories and
artwork into books, using modern computer programs and paper-and-pencil.
What is required is a good sense of design.
• A promotion person to design and execute a marketing program.
• An Administrative Assistant to help with tasks such as
invoicing, keeping records, filing, and organising meetings.
It is possible for Indigenous people who want to learn some skills
to work alongside experienced workers.
