Black Ink Press
Kerry Neary had this to say (October 2005) about us:
Black Ink is a specialist publisher not a general publisher. Their
writers and artists are indigenous and their work is very much directed
towards indigenous readers - that is not to say that non-indigenous
readers won't enjoy the books also.
But specifically the writing resonates strongly with the oral traditions
of indigenous storytelling. In many you can 'hear' the telling and
even the lilt of the accent. The illustrations range from modern
traditional to the naive style that is typical of many new indigenous
painters, both styles very much in harmony with 'homeliness' of
the stories.
If you have a significant indigenous population within your school
or a section of your curriculum that covers that kind of topic,
then it is well worth looking at Black Ink's publications. You could
find some perfect little gems amongst them just suited to your purpose.
